Add to calendar 03/10/22 19:00 03/10/22 Europe/Madrid CONFERENCE. Stuart Mangrum, ‘Burning Man: A Living Laboratory for Civic Design’
The relationship between Las Fallas and Burning Man is broader than we can imagine. On the one hand, as in our parties, this event takes place around creativity and fire. In addition, a Valencian falla was planted in its 2016 edition, thus carrying part of our history, festivals and principles. Now we continue to weave this relationship with the visit of Stuart Mangrum, its director of didactics, who will be in Valencia on March 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Center del Carme giving a conference on the values of Burning Man and how is the process of construction of the ephemeral city that appears every year in the desert of Black Rock City. A new opportunity to generate opportunities between both fire festivals, locals and internationals in equal parts. Mangrum will also discuss the role of Burning Man Project, the tiny nonprofit corporation that orchestrates these processes, its design modalities, and the idea of redesigning oneself as a leader to allow this kind of emergent, collaborative culture-building to flourish.

THE 10 PRINCIPLES OF BURNING MAN

FULL INCLUSION
Anyone can be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect those we haven’t met yet. There are no prerequisites for participating in our community.
GIFT ECONOMY
Is it the highest way to share? Participants love to give away. The value of a gift is unconditional. The act of gifting must not contemplate the delivery of another gift of the same value in exchange.
DECONMODIFICATION
In order to preserve the spirit of the gift, our community aims to create a social environment that prevents commerce, advertising and commercial transactions. We are willing to protect our culture from the concept of exploitation. We are reluctant to introduce trade – consumption in this participatory experience, despite the comforts that this would entail.
SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Participants encourage you to have the experience of discovering, exercising and trusting your self-sufficiency.
SELF-EXPRESSION
Total freedom of expression is a unique gift that each individual offers us, accept it, enjoy it. No one other than the individual or group can limit or determine its content. It is a gift offered to others. In this spirit, the issuer must respect the rights of others. We must also respect the right of the receiver, because there is the freedom NOT to accept this interaction.
COMMUNITY EFFORT
Our community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art and communication methods that support this interaction.
CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY
We value civil society. Community members who organize events must take responsibility for the public welfare and take responsibility for communicating to participants their civic responsibility. Let’s help them! We must all also assume the responsibility of holding events in accordance with local, regional and state laws.

LEAVE NO TRACE
Our community is environmentally friendly. We are committed to the task of not leaving any physical trace of our activity in the place where we have met. We ourselves must strive to clean absolutely everything when we leave and try, whenever possible, to leave these places in a better state than when we arrived.

PARTICIPATION

Our community is committed to full ethical participation. We believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can only occur with deep personal involvement and this is achieved by involvement! Everyone is invited to actively participate. With these actions that leave our hearts open we make a more humane world.
IMMEDIATE
Living in the instant moment is, in many ways, the most important touchstone of value in our culture. We seek to overcome the barriers that stand between us and a recognition of our inner self, live the reality of what surrounds us, participate in the community, and contact with a natural world superior to human forces. No idea can replace this experience.
