Locations

Experience Valencia will take place in two spaces. The workshops will take place in the Zeus space located in La Marina de València from June 13 to 16, and the conferences and the rest of the program at La Rambleta on June 17 and 18, 2022.

  • La Rambleta. This is the cultural space of reference in Valencia and one of the most notable at a national level. It is a meeting point which hosts all artistic and avant-garde events. La Rambleta acts as a catalyst, driving contemporary culture with programming which highlights quality offerings, current creation and the projection of emerging artists. In fact, the space has become the driver of trends and stirrer of thought in the city. It is a versatile enclave where the fusion of all artistic expressions is produced, and where local, national and international professionals come together.
  • Zeus and Sesame, located in La Marina de València. The technological space, located in Base 1, is an avant-garde and multidisciplinary building. It is a technological laboratory where innovation, creation of ideas and constant synergy between startups and other actors in the Valencian business ecosystem are key elements. It has modern offices with futuristic interior design inspired by the tech world, with different areas for sharing periods of work and breaks, and extensive sea views. This building entails a redefinition of work spaces, where data is more than ever at the centre of decision making and people are immersed in the experience of data analysis through Command Centres.

Keynotes

Brian Collins. This designer, creative director and teacher is the founder of Collins, a brand and experience design firm with headquarters in San Francisco and New York. The firm was named by Forbes as one of the companies which is transforming the future of brand construction. He was the first graphic designer invited to speak at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He is a board member of the One Club for Creativity and has been a teacher at the School of Visual Arts since 2001. He is a Distinguished Alumni of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and has received an Honorary Doctorate from the ArtCenter College of Design. Fast Company named him American Master of Design in 2005.

Caterina Bianchini. She is the founder of Studio Nari, a creative consulting and branding studio created to bridge the gap between design and art. Nari is focused on giving brands life, character and spirit through artistic technique, conceptual thought and brand literature. Its mantra, an acronym for “Not Always Right Ideas”, is at the centre of everything it does, always trying to move the focus away from the “dos and don’ts” of textbook graphic design, taking a humanist and artistic approach.

Liza Enebeis is the creative director of Studio Dumbar and the founder of DEMO, Design in Motion Festival. Studio Dumbar is an international agency which has won different awards, focused on the “visual brand”. Enebeis participates in all the main projects of Dumbar, including the visual identity of the NGO Alzheimer Nederland, Transavia Airlines and the “brand update” of the Van Gogh Museum. Graduating from the Royal College of Arts in London, Enebeis worked on the team of David Hillman at Pentagram London for several years before joining Studio Dumbar. In 2004 she co-founded the podcast Typeradio.org with Donald Beekman and the font company Underware. Typeradio has an archive of over 500 informal and entertaining interviews with font designers, typographers and designers, all available for free download. In 2018, Enebeis was elected as a member of the AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale).

Alex Trochut. After completing his studies at Elisava Escola Superior de Disseny, Alex established his own design studio in Barcelona, before moving to New York City. Through his design, illustration and typographical work, he has developed an intuitive way of working, which has resulted in his expressive visual style. As a designer, Alex focuses on the potential of language as a visual medium, taking language to the limit so that seeing and reading become the same action, and the text and the image become a unified expression. Alex has created design, illustration and typography for a wide range of clients: Nike, Adidas, The Rolling Stones, Katy Perry, BBC, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, The Guardian, The New York Times, and Time Magazine, etc. Alex’ work has been recognised internationally, appearing in exhibitions and publications around the world. He has given talks and has been honoured by the Art Directors Club (he was named Young Gun in 2008), the Type Directors Club, Creative Review, Cannes, Clio and D&AD, etc.

Henry Daubrez. He is the co-owner and Creative Director of Dogstudio. This Belgian-Spanish designer who has lived for 30 years in Belgium believes that inspiration can be found in the simplest things. Among the clients for whom he has worked are Microsoft, Dragone, Nordeus, B-Reel, DDB Paris, Sony-Ericsson, Buzzman Paris, Bacardi, Philips, Ice-watch, L’Oreal and many more.

David Navarro. His most recent project was as being Director of Product Design at Twitter, and during the last two decades he has worked for Facebook, Messenger, Google, Reuters, Spotify, Discovery, Cowboy, Einride, Adidas, Red Bull and many more, creating digital brands and products, combining strategy, design and storytelling. Previously, he held the post of Executive Creative Director at Ueno, Creative Director at Stink Studios, Head of Design at JWT Amsterdam, Director of Design at Tribal DDB Amsterdam and ran his own studio, Pixelinglife.

Yarza Twins. Eva and Marta have created this award winning design agency with headquarters in London and Paris. At Yarza Twins, they work with clients for whom they create honest work which stands out from the crowd. They build lasting commercial relationships and help their clients to find their voice and connect with their audiences. Notable among their design achievements are the 2020 National Design Award (National Design Awards), a prestigious D&AD Pencil in 2018 Packaging Design, and the 2021 Galician Innovation and Design Award, among others.

Rebeka Arce. This multidisciplinary designer and art director based in Madrid has an unmistakeable sense of rhythm and balance, and her passion for observation, synthesis and approach to future scenarios has led her to move through diverse fields of design. Her work places a special focus on brand identity, narrative visual strategies and the creation of images for audiovisual media, with the objective of elevating commercial and brand offerings, translating their essential values into a meaningful visual form. From her studio she works for large brands, building and leading teams of collaborators from different disciplines to undertake strategy and design projects with a thorough process of research and development of concepts.

Thomas Kurppa. He is the co-founder and creative director of Kurppa Hosk. He began his career as an electronic music producer in the early 90s. He began with a series of small record labels where he produced underground music and designed album covers. Thomas studied at the Forsberg Design School in Stockholm in the mid-90s, and at the end of the decade moved to London to work at Wallpaper * Magazine as a designer. Upon his return to Sweden, he joined Stockholm Design Lab as senior designer in 2002. In 2009, he co-founded Kurppa Hosk. Thomas has won numerous awards, including Merit Awards, a Distinction Award of the Art Directors Club of New York, the Tokyo TDC and the Swedish Golden Egg Award.

Roanne Adams created her own creative studio RoAndCo in 2006, where she is the Chief Creative Director. The studio first gained popularity in the design world for Roanne’s fearless ability to create successful and scalable brands from scratch. Over the past 15 years, Roanne and her team have helped launch hundreds of new brands across fashion, beauty, technology and lifestyle, and have worked with Fortune 500 companies including Google, Nike and Estée Lauder. Throughout her career, Roanne has cultivated a following of design professionals, devoted clients and trainees, and as a studio founder, she fosters a hands-on, collaborative culture on a daily basis with her team, many of them women, whom she has supported on your own path to leadership.

Likewise, she has dedicated time and professional effort to non-profit initiatives such as Women’s March, Together We Rise, Overstand, RoAndCo’s Mentorship Program, among others. And in 2017, UN Women named Roanne a “Champion of Change” for her leadership in advocating for equal pay for women and more female creative directors in the advertising and design industry. That same year saw the launch of Roanne’s exciting project, “Romance Journal,” a publication dedicated to exploring truth and raising collective consciousness through an intersectional lens. Focusing on the theme “Creation,” the latest issue explores the desire to create and the ways in which expression, connection, and creativity empower and influence others.

For her clients and contemporaries, Roanne is an exemplary leader for her ability to visually capture a brand’s personality and her contributions in service of a more sustainable and equitable world. Today, she still oversees the RoAndCo team in New York and Los Angeles, but she has settled in Los Angeles with her husband and her two children.

Kaave Pour. He is the co-founder and executive director of SPACE10, a research and design laboratory with the mission of creating a better everyday life for people and the planet. Working at the intersection of design, technology and business, it strives to create radical solutions to social and environmental challenges. Kaave’s work includes collaborations with IKEA, Apple, the UN, Harvard and MIT, among others, which have been recognised in the press around the world. SPACE10 has won numerous awards, including from D&AD, Webby, Dezeen and Fast Company. Additionally, Kaave Pour has been a speaker at multiple conferences, to which he is invited to share his thoughts and experiences with global brands, universities, organisations and the media, in order to promote a curious, playful, forward-looking approach to doing business.

Mathieu Desjardins. Mathieu Desjardins has been a graphic designer and art director for many advertising agencies in Montreal. He has worked for many international brands such as Adidas, but after 10 years in the business, he became a freelancer, which led to many parallel projects. Pangram Pangram was one of these, and has ended up becoming his main project since 2018. Since then it has grown a lot and over 30 typographical launches, many collaborations and countless projects have been carried out.

Hamill Industries. This is a creative studio comprising Pablo Barquín and Anna Díaz, cinema directors, inventors and experts in mixed media. Their body of work is focused on combining computerised, robotic and video techniques to explore concepts of nature, the cosmos and the laws of physics. Profoundly influenced by their work as filmmakers, the duo undertakes artistic and technological research in the field of visual arts and the visualisation of sound, combining new media and innovative experimental technology with mechanical inventions and taking inspiration from the world of the first avant-garde films, as well as science fiction movies. Hamill Industries has become an inspiring place for creating ambitious works of visual art and expanding artistic practice into new creative dimensions, achieving poetic and playful visual experiences through the combination of digital and analogue technologies with crafts. Hamill Industries works through multiple forms of media, including television advertising, music videos, art installations and live presentations. Their pieces have been internationally recognised with publications in industry media (Motionographer, Deezen, The Creators Project) and awards such as LAUS GOLD 15’ and best 10 for the STARTS PRIZE AWARD ’16. Since 2015, they have been touring alongside Floating Points creating their mesmerizing visual shows as well as directing their visual album “Reflections – Mojave Desert” among many other projects.

Sebastiaan Scheer (Media.Monks). Sebastiaan began as a graphic designer at the end of the 90s, but then combined his skills with interaction design, which made him a comprehensive digital designer. Now, with this focus on advertising for MediaMonks, one of the largest digital agencies that exists, he is shaping the landscape of global design. Additionally, he is a board member of Dutch Digital Design, where his purpose is to find and present the best digital design created in the Netherlands.

Marta Cerdà. This multitalented graphic designer currently resides in Barcelona, the main focus of her work extending on both sides to the limits between typography and illustration. For her, the separation of these two disciplines into specialised activities is a limitation. Marta graduated in Graphic Design from the Elisava school. At the end of 2008, after working at agencies and studios in Barcelona, Düsseldorf and Munich, she won the ADC Young Guns and decided to become a freelancer. From then on, she has worked on global projects which encompass art direction, design, illustration and typography. Her work has been awarded by the main design competitions, including the Art Directors Club and the Type Directors Club. She also gives lectures on design at conferences and universities around the world.

Workshops & more

During this week, other activities will also be carried out, such as the Women at Work by Hey live podcast, discussions, concerts and different workshops by iF Awards, and Rubio & Del Amo, among others.

“Women at Work by Hey” live podcast. As Angela Davis said, “I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.” This podcast by Hey studio focuses on creative work and female leadership as an initiative to do just that: to take the baton of change, and in turn inspire other professionals, encouraging those who want to listen to come and open their ears. It is presented by Ane Guerra, and we will have the pleasure of being able to attend live and in a special format.

iF Awards. The IF Awards were created in 1953 as Die Gute Industrieform e.V. Since then, iF Design and the iF DESIGN AWARD are a symbol of excellence in design around the world. Each year, an international panel of 100 independent experts awards achievements in product design, packaging, communication and services, architecture and interior architecture, as well as professional concept, UX and UI. iF Design also contributes to the international design community, organising the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD for young designers and the iF SOCIAL IMPACT PRIZE for social projects.

Rubio & Del Amo. This studio is focused on the creation and management of brands, books, packaging and other objects conceived as communication solutions through design and creativity. It opts for clients who are committed to their projects and upholds an efficient, fresh and honest design based on robust concepts.

Music

There will also be a space for fun and music from DJs Pau Roca Ávila (La Habitación Roja) and Wisemen Project, and the band Paradise Phantom.
