Cinema Designs season: “Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios” On Thursday, May 19 at 8:00 p.m., La Filmoteca will screen 'Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios' (1988), one of Pedro Almodóvar's most commercially successful comedies, starring Carmen Maura, Fernando Guillén, Julieta Serrano, Antonio Banderas, María Barranco and Rossy de Palma. Winner of the Goya award for best film in 1988 and nominated for the Oscars, 'Mujeres al verge de un Attack de Nervos' represents a change in Almodóvar's filmography, as it moves away from the underground aesthetic of his previous films to approach the sumptuous world of haute couture and postmodern design of the late eighties without neglecting his passion for kitsch and the usual aesthetic references of gay culture. The film impresses with the costumes and clothing accessories of the characters and the furniture of the luxurious penthouse in the center of Madrid where the action takes place. Almodóvar brings together a varied and colorful catalog of designs that range from the Tolomeo lamp, the Wassily de Breuer chair and the coffee maker earrings designed by Antonio Alvarado, to the 'mambo taxi' kitsch keyring collection, Julieta Serrano's suit, inspired by Andre Courreges.
