Writing exists from the moment it becomes an organized system of autonomous signs by which the user can clearly materialize and determine everything he or she thinks, feels and knows how to express… But some of us feel that perhaps the soul of the letter (now an instrument of reason) yearns for its independent origin. Its lost freedom.
The exhibition Tipografía’m bears this name because it focuses on the character “em”, the thirteenth letter of the Spanish alphabet. Starting from this letter and using any type of technique, they seek to experiment graphically and conceptually in order to assert the formal role of that letter in design and art. By isolating any character from its usual context (the word, the line, the paragraph, the page…), the exhibition aims to distance it from the domain of linguistics and bring it closer to the realm of the visual, to engage with it as a purely formal object. All this will give greater visibility to the work of so many typographers whose efforts and talent have conferred a special and unique character to each letter “em” that they have designed.
