‘Greetings from…’, postcards to send those hugs we won’t be able to give this year

To gather, to share a table, to make a toast… It is well known, this is an exceptional year. However, we do not want to forget all those hugs we would like to give to our beloved ones.

We come from difficult months, in which our social relationships have been specially limited. Our neighborhoods have become our territorial borders, and we have been very lucky to rediscover them during lockdown, stablishing new links or reinforcing the existing ones.

‘Greetings From…’ is a tribute to our own city, taking shape in ten postcards that, through the lense of different illustrators, reflect a diverse and joyful Valencia.

The main goal of this campaign is to greet us in a closer way, specially taking on account that we won’t have the chance of giving a hug to the people we love. It has been devised by the architect and illustrator Virginia Lorente, and driven by World Design Capital Valencia 2022 and Visit València. Highlighting the character and the diversity of the city, as well as motivating its inhabitants to send some smiles and hugs through these postcards.

The campaign is composed by 50.000 postcards distributed along the city, posters of the illustrations, available at the Visit València info points, a video where the artists explain their own participation and a landing page where it is possible to send the postcards in a virtual format: www.greetingsfromvalencia.com

Ten illustrators from the Valencian Community have represented ten districts of Valencia: its design culture, landscapes, tradition and architecture, with an image that aims to identify every aspect of the city. From Ciutat Vella, Eixample, Extramurs, Patraix, Trànsits, Exposició, Marítim, Pobles del Nord, Pobles d’Oest, to Pobles del Sud, in an excercise of beauty and creativity.

Memosesmas illustrates Poblats del Nord; Víctor Visa Eixample; Pablo Caracol Pobles de l’Oest; Elisa Martínez is in charge of Extramurs; Jordi Bestiola draws Trànsits; Tania Vicedo Patraix; and Juárez Casanova illustrates Poblats Marítims. Luna Pan represents Exposició, Ciutat Vella has been devised by Calpurnio;  and Virginia Lorente illustrates Pobles del Sud.

“From my point of view, these postcards represent all those things we have in common; that channel where we can say to our beloved ones that we appreciate them, and that we stand by their side. This campaign recovers the evocative character of the postcard as an emotional channel, defending the fact of receiving a message written by a relative”, explains Virginia Lorente, creator of the campaign.
