Valencia Design Map, locations in the city recognised for their design

It is no coincidence that Valencia is to be World Design Capital In 2022. It is the result of the work of three generations of designers, of the companies that put their faith in design, the investment by entrepreneurs who have used designers to launch their projects and the institutions that procure and programme design. The conjunction of all these social agents has led to the appearance of hundreds of physical spaces in the city of Valencia that, thanks to good design, mark the difference in a Mediterranean city that is open to the world.

Mapa del Disseny (Design map) is born of the need to give a voice to these projects, available www.mapadeldissenyvalencia.com. Live cartography is underway in Valencia via its galleries, restaurants, museums, cafés, hotels, shops, creative spaces… The platform with which to amalgamate the impulse that, district by district, can be felt throughout the city.

The project, promoted by World Design Capital Valencia 2022 and Visit València in collaboration with Agència Districte, will project the individual cases of dozens of premises, initially organised via the districts of Ciutat Vella, Benimaclet, Extramurs, l’Eixample, Jesús, Patraix, Campanar, Poblats Marítims, Pla del Real and La Saïdia, and progressively through any enclave, whether for the buildings themselves or their contents.

Intended as a reference guide for the local population and for visitors, with a triple version in Spanish, Valencian and English, Mapa del Disseny aims to become a contemporary guide to design in Valencia, presented via its physical spaces. A live guide in constant growth. In fact, the map itself will consist of a consultative cartographic process that will expand by means of collective participation, via a network of suggestions and consultations which, based on the quality criteria of World Design Capital Valencia 2022, will reward the design-oriented efforts made in Valencia.

Furthermore, it will be a tool to enable citizens to create their own design routes and gain an overall understanding of the positive impact of design on the city. A tool that can grow over time to form real routes that can be followed in the city of Valencia, placing to focus on the use of design as a tool for discourse.

The aims of Mapa del Disseny include promoting the teaching of design; reinforcing the local professional design network, generating a community; and practising territorial branding, contributing to the challenge of Valencian design.
