World Design Spotlight: “Diabla” by Gandía Blasco.

DIABLA is one of the brands of outdoor furniture, accessories and complementary items of Gandia Blasco Group.

With DIABLA, the Valencian family group, a reference in the design and creation of outdoor furniture and spaces, as well as being leaders in the production of handcrafted designer rugs, embarked on a new business venture.

Backed by this prestigious Spanish firm, endorsed by a track record of more than eight decades in the national and international contemporary design market, DIABLA develops its collections with the support of the resources and knowledge accumulated by Gandia Blasco Group on design culture, production and business development, and in close collaboration with some of the most talented designers of the day.

Its collections are formed by pieces of a casual nature, closely linked to other worlds, such as literature, art and photography. Designs that seek the beauty of nature in its most untamed state, looking towards sometimes extreme landscapes.

The designers and design studios that collaborate with the brand are offered creative freedom. Alejandra Gandía-Blasco, creative director of Diabla, as well as MUT Design, Democràcia Estudio, Made Studio, OiKo Design Office and Teresa Sapey + Partners, among others, apply their efforts to create concepts and elements that enrich outdoor spaces.

The Diabla range includes designs such as Valentina, designed by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco, an exercise in synthesis with the use of two cushions and minimum structure. This year has seen the presentation of Valentina Up, an adaptation of the original collection with V-shaped legs made from galvanized iron rods which improve the ergonomics of the furniture. Valentina, rewarded in the 2018 edition of the BID Ibero-American Design Biennial, in the Industrial Design category, and in the Elle Decor EDIDA Spain awards in 2019, is the collection that sets the tone for the brand’s furniture type and product strategy.

In the Diabla catalogue, we also find the Trip collection, designed by José A. Gandía Blasco and Borja García, a set of folding furniture with a nomadic spirit, produced using aluminium to make it resistant, light and portable.

The brand has been rewarded on various occasions, most recently in 2022 with the NYCxDESIGN Award in the category of Outdoor Furniture Collection for the PATOSO collection by Alejandra Gandía-Blasco for DIABLA.
